I am so happy to see the positive response to my Redrawn post last week!  I was a little nervous to share what I had drawn but the comments and tweets throughout this past week have really sustained me and given me confidence. Fashion illustration is a genre I haven’t really had much experience in, and considering that I’m redrawing runway fashions on to bodies that have very different proportions, I’m experiencing a level of challenge that is both delightful and nourishing as well as a bit brow-furrowing at times (but mostly really empowering, yep.)

Collage of two catwalk photos. Left: Young slim light skinned woman walking down a runway wearing a khaki and bright orange horizontally striped dress with big cuffs on the sleeves and a yellow and navy striped long sleeve shirt layered underneath. She carries a tan handbag and wears khaki sandals. Right: Young slim light skinned woman walking down a runway wearing a bright yellow tshirt with large blue leopard spots spattered across the front tucked into a really bright orange high waisted skirt with a blue and black geometrical pattern, tied with a bright blue ribbon at the waist. She carries a gold bag and wears cherry red boots with buckles up the shaft.

Ariel requested some Marc Jacobs in the comments last week so I had to submit to her sweet demand because she is super lovely and kick arse. Upon looking through the last few collections I was totally on board the Marc Jacobs train and left pondering why on earth these looks weren’t made for plus sizes because they would look frelling amazing. Marianne linked me to a couple of looks she particularly liked, and I loved one of them so much I had to include it (on the right). The horizontally striped dress spoke to me… It said, “Natalie, I am begging to be rocked by a fat lady. DOOOOO ITTTT!”

Collage of two illustrations. Left: Fat woman with large hips, short waist and curly hair wearing a khaki and orange horizontally striped dress. Right: Fat woman with narrow hips, uneven breasts and straight hair with a big pink bow and a loose fringe wearing a yellow tshirt tucked into an orange patterned skirt tied with a blue ribbon at the waist. And thusly I did it.

Next week I might look into Rick Owens. Y? Any other suggestions?

Natalie, I love these! What are the chances you could include a more apple-shaped lady next week?

The redraw on the right was supposed to be more apply with narrower hips, but I don’t know if it really translates because of the angle/ my not-great-fashion-illo-skills. I am a bit apply myself so I really feel you on wanting to be represented, I will definitely be practicing my apple shapes! The awesome thing about doing this every week is that I will get lots of practice :)

You know, I really love this “Redrawn” thing more than I have loved anything on a blog in a long time. Best thing on the internet! A+++
